Itinerary
Day 1. Arrival at Stormy Hill in the afternoon to let you settle into the self-catering cottage. An introduction to the horses at afternoon feed time.
Day 2. The program starts around 08:30. It includes finding out about the horses different personalities while they are in their stables; brushing the horses and general handling. This helps you to get to know your horse. After grooming and tacking up the horses, you’ll ride in the training ring to get used to the horses, then you set off for your trail ride. This is tailored for the individual needs and goes at a pace that Stormy Hill Horse Trails think is fit for the riders. It normally encompasses going up and down hills and crossing a stream or two. This usually takes approximately three hours. You may be asked to dismount and lead your horses depending on the ground conditions in different sections. (Some areas tend to get a bit slippery at times). This program will take up most of the morning. Approximately four and a half hours. This is a relaxed ride in the open countryside and forest plantations. There is beautiful scenery and the dogs usually follow along. When you get back, you’ll take the bridle and saddle off and finally you give the horses some apples or carrots and let them out into the fields to graze. After your horse riding in the morning, you will have time to explore the surrounding area in the afternoon. Your own transport will be required. There is the Midlands Meander with its craft shops. Take a canopy tour on a zipline in the Karkloof. Eat at quaint cafes and restaurants. Visit the Howick waterfall and see the zebras at the Umgeni Nature Reserve. Alternatively just relax, have a braai (barbeque) or take a stroll around the property.
Days 3 and 4. You will be going out for a trail ride of approximately 2-3 hours. Stormy Hill Horse Trails usually take a different route in the forest each day to show you more of the surrounding countryside. Stormy Hill Horse Trails have access to extensive forestry and farmland areas for the horse trails. This is all private ground which you wouldn’t have access to normally. When you get back, you’ll take the bridle and saddle off and finally let them out into the fields to graze. This program will take up most of the morning. Approximately four and a half hours.
Last Day. You’ll go out for a trail ride. This is a shorter ride of about one to two hours. You will then be able to check out of the cottage at your leisure.

Itinerary
Day 1. Arrival at Stormy Hill in the afternoon to let you settle into the self-catering cottage. An introduction to the horses at afternoon feed time.
Day 2. The program starts around 9.00am
It includes finding about the horses different personalities while they are in their stables. Brushing the horses and general handling. I then take a horse into the training ring and demonstrate some ground work. That’s involves me on the ground with the horse going round using my body language to control the situation. You would then be invited in to try this for yourselves with my guidance. This enables you to be around horses in a relaxed environment and to discover the power of body language and your own thought processes in controlling a situation. This is a fun morning with some learning and confidence building thrown in. I would then put you on a horse for a lead round the ring. You will then practise basic commands and when you are confident I will take you on a trail ride for about one hour. You will then be shown how to take the bridle and saddle off and finally we give the horses some apples or carrots and let them out into the fields to graze. This program will take up most of the morning. Approximately three hours. You are then free to enjoy the afternoon at your leisure.
